Ep #6: Epilogue - Light

Hon Li Yun arrived from the Pacific Ocean to Mexico on a transport vessel carrying assistance to the United States of America. There was a port in Mexicali where several relief ships were arriving from all over the world. Currently, it was the only place in the Pacific Basin where ships could come and go due to the instability of the shipping lanes once used before California had disappeared into the ocean.

Once Yun was off the transport, he was compelled to simply walk. He didn’t know where he was going, only that he needed to keep moving. So far along his journey, everything he had a need for was provided for him. He wasn’t concerned with how he would eat or where he would sleep. Those things he didn’t take much thought for because he knew he was doing what he was expected to by God.

Mexicali was a busy place and many people were busy at work. There were caravans of vehicles heading into the United States with supplies and medical aid. Yun was almost overwhelmed at the generosity and goodwill of the people around him, how they were seemingly coming together in an effort to aid a fallen country.

“Hey!” someone called out.

Yun turned to see a young couple standing beside a truck, which had just been loaded with supplies. It was the Mexican woman who had called to him. The man was busy under the hood of the truck, checking the engine’s fluids.

“You…” the woman said, beckoning to Yun with her hand.

Without hesitation, Yun approached.

The woman gestured toward the truck. “You go to America?”

Yun regarded her and her husband, who was watching him from over the engine.

“America,” the woman repeated.

Yun nodded. “America.”

“You come with us? Help us bring aid?”

Yun looked at the truck and nodded. Though he didn’t speak English or Spanish, who only knew one thing. Where God lead him to, he would go.

Fuller and Shiva made it back to the Federal Building a few hours later as the sun was setting and the sky was darkening. They took the lockbox into Fuller’s office. Fuller asked Shiva to find Fronk, but when the ex-wrestler came back moments later, he came without the Crazy Man.

“He’s not in his office,” Shiva told him. “There was a note on his computer that said, Come hither to the roof.”

Fuller looked at him. “Come hither to the roof?”

Shiva shrugged. “That’s what the note said.”

The Director let out a sigh. “Alright…let’s you and I take a look inside this thing and find out what Joseph left for us.”

Shiva nodded and stood by the desk, waiting as Fuller took the key and inserted it into the lockbox. He turned the key and slowly opened the lockbox. He stared at what was inside…He dropped the open cover and it slammed onto the desk with a thud. He swallowed and wiped his hand under his chin.

Then Fuller looked at Shiva.

Shiva shook his head in disbelief. “It can’t be…”

Fuller slowly reached in and took the photos on top of a pile of papers, documents, and other assorted intelligence reports. All of which were discovered inside the lockbox, among other things. He expected to go through everything inside the box at a time he was able to, but for the moment, he was concerned about the photos. He looked through them, and suddenly his mouth went dry.

“We can’t let this happen,” Shiva told him.

Fuller shook his head. “We can’t…We won’t.” He took one of the photos and held it up for both of them to see. It was a picture of President Walter J. Ballou with a red X marked on his face. He let out a sigh. “I’ve got to get a hold of Matt Lambert.” He put the photos back into the box and relocked it. He put the lockbox under his desk and nodded to Shiva. “Come on…Let’s get up to the roof.”

Fuller and Shiva left the office and headed for the nearest stairwell.

As soon as the door closed, a man came out of the ATD Center and casually walked toward the Director’s office. James Bollinger glanced around and when he was satisfied no one was paying attention, he entered into Fuller’s office.

Fuller and Shiva were surprised to find Fronk sitting in a chair on the rooftop of the Federal Building. He was facing the skyline of Albany as he kept a laptop balanced on his lap. The sun was no longer visible as it had set and the stars were shining above. The light emanating from the laptop illuminated Fronk’s face. The generated power extended to the lights of the landing pad and enabled the men to see their way as they walked toward the computer expert.

“William,” Fuller began, trying to determine why Fronk was sitting up on the roof, “is there a purpose for this?”

Fronk nodded.

Shiva clapped Fronk on the shoulder. “Come on, man. We’ve got to tell you something…about what we’ve found.”

“God divided light from darkness,” Fronk said.

Fuller frowned. “What?”

He glanced up from the laptop. “He did. He divided the light from the darkness. Must have been a reason why He did that, don’t you think? You know, the whole thing is just curious. In heaven, there will be no night. There will be no light either, because Jesus will be the only Light. Isn’t that amazing?”

“Where’s that from?” Shiva asked.

“Revelation 22:5,” Fronk responded. “‘And there shall be no night there, and they will need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light.’”

“That’s great, William,” Fuller said, “but what does that have to do with what you’re doing up on the roof?”

Fronk smiled. He and Yorke had set in motion a plan that would help the people of Albany and anger the head of Justice. His finger poised over the ENTER button on his laptop. “Genesis 1:3...‘And God said, Let there be light…’” He pressed the button.

Because of computerized technology, in an eighth of a second, a command was sent directly to the central computers in the Albany Power Plant’s main frame. It overrode all commands that Ed Carr had specialists set in place and inserted new commands and stronger firewalls. It rerouted systems and bypassed binary codes within the blink of an eye.

And as a result, Albany came to life.

The skyline lit up with light from restored power.

Fronk smiled and waved toward the city. “‘…And there was light.’”

Ed Carr was furious as he sat at his desk with his back to the window. “You’re incompetent!” he exclaimed into the phone. “Hank Sumter could not have disappeared! He has a chip. All AIM agents have a chip. Find him!” He snapped shut his cell phone and glared at his desk.

There seemed to be more light than what was given from generated power.

He frowned.

Then, he slowly swiveled in his chair and looked out the window. His mouth dropped open as he rose to his feet. The city’s power was up and running. Lights were on. Streetlamps were flickering as they came back to power. Carr balled his right hand into a fist.

“William Fronk…” he vowed to himself, “I swear, you’re a dead man.”

Director Fuller was excited about the power restored to the city and hurried to his desk. Maybe the phone lines were back up as well. Unfortunately, when he picked up the phone, there was still no dial tone. But it was still great news. He took the time to thank God for what He had done as he stood in front of the window, smiling at the return of Albany, New York.

After a few moments, he sat down at his desk and reached under it. It was time to see what other secrets were inside the lockbox.

He frowned when his hand didn’t touch anything.

Beginning to panic, Fuller looked under his desk, but to his horror…the lockbox was no longer there.
